Privacy Policy
Summary: your sleep and health data stay on your device. There is no account, and we do not upload, sell, or rent your personal or health information. The only things that leave your device are anonymous usage events, anything you deliberately send us (feedback), and the data Google AdMob needs to show ads to users without a subscription. Your sleep and health data are never part of any of it.
Information the app can access on your device
With your permission, Yawn Dawn may access the following, only to provide its features. You control each permission and can change it at any time in your device Settings.
- Health data — Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android). If you connect it, the app reads sleep, steps, exercise, and workout data to build your sleep history and energy insights. The app reads this data only and never writes changes back. This information is processed and stored on your device and is never uploaded.
- Motion and step activity. If you do not use a wearable, the app can estimate your nights from your phone's overnight step and movement data. Processed on your device.
- Calendar. If you allow calendar access, the app reads your events to show them alongside your energy map, and can write energy blocks to your calendar if you choose. Optional.
- Microphone. If you enable sound-based sleep detection, the microphone is used to score overnight noise levels only. Audio is never recorded, saved, or transmitted.
- Notifications. Used for the reminders and smart alarm you set, and to tell you when we reply to your feedback.
Data stored on your device
Your sleep sessions, settings, habits, and insights are stored locally on your device. Removing the app removes this data, and you can erase all data from within the app. See our data deletion page for step-by-step instructions.
Advertising
The free version of Yawn Dawn is supported by advertising served by Google AdMob. To serve, frequency-cap, and measure ads, AdMob may collect your device's advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location derived from it, and ad-interaction data. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's privacy policy.
Your sleep, health, calendar, and audio data are never shared with any advertising provider and are never used for advertising targeting. An active subscription removes all advertising from the app.
Anonymous usage and diagnostic data
To understand how features are used and to improve the app, we collect limited, anonymous usage events (for example, that a screen was viewed or a feature was used), along with a randomly generated installation identifier, your device platform, and the app version. This information is not linked to your name or identity, and it does not include your sleep, health, calendar, or audio data.
Feedback and support
If you send us feedback from inside the app, we receive your message and the app's random installation identifier so we can reply. If notifications are enabled, a push token is stored so our reply can reach your device. You can include contact details; they are used only to respond to you.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not receive or store your payment card details. A purchase receipt may be verified against our server to activate your subscription. Please review Apple's or Google's privacy policy for how they handle purchase information.
Children
Yawn Dawn is not directed to children under the age required by your local law to consent to data processing, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will address it.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted. On-device data is protected by your device's own security, which is why a passcode is worth having. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices
- Grant or revoke Health, Calendar, Microphone, Motion, and Notification permissions at any time in your device Settings.
- Erase all app data from within the app, or by deleting the app — details on our data deletion page.
- Ask us to delete the little data we hold off-device (feedback messages and push tokens) by emailing us.
- Remove advertising entirely by subscribing.
- Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and CCPA), you may have rights of access, correction, deletion, and objection over the limited data we hold. Email us and we will act on it.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes take effect when the updated policy is posted here, with a new effective date.
